Living in an a Dystopian America

Whenever I hear Obama and his minions claim that “Islam is the religion of peace,” I cannot help but think the President is utilizing several concepts drawn from writer George Orwell’s famous book, Nineteen Eighty-Four. In this political parable, he writes about how the people of Oceania are trained from childhood to be vigilant in detecting and persecuting anything that the State considers as “evil.” Simply put, the State defines what is good and what is evil. Succumbing to the Party is considered the greatest good; obedience and complicity constitute the “love” of Big Brother.  The State aims to pursue a merging of consciousness, where the State’s will—as defined by Big Brother—becomes the will of the individual.

Slogans play an important part of  the collective indoctrination of the people. Orwell describes an usually fictional language he calls, “Newspeak,” which is a controlled language that is designed to constrict the freedom of thought. Newspeak aims to eliminate concepts that pose a threat to the regime such as freedom, self-expression, individuality, and peace. Contrarian perspectives are typically regarded as “thoughtcrimes”

Big Brother uses another interesting too to enslave the minds of the people called  “Doublespeak.” Simply defined, it is a language that deliberately disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words. Wherever one goes in this dystopian society, the citizen always encounters the three slogans of the Party that stand out in bold capital letters: 

• WAR IS PEACE
• FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
• IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

Orwell intended to warn us about the dangers of people whose visions for a totalitarian utopias, whether political, economic, social, or theocratic. You can see this kind of “political correctness,” our now-passing rage of liberal conformity today. Often as Jews, we can see how the Left is castigating Israel and demonizing anyone who dares to challenge the status quo.

As we look in the present era, 2015, we can see how people who criticize Obama are routinely called “racist” and marginalized through shaming and other not-so-subtle techniques of intimidation. In Hollywood, actors who criticize the President’s agenda often do not receive acting jobs. There is an atmosphere of terror and the ghost of McCarthy  is reminding us that liberalism can be just as fascist as any political philosophy of the ultra-right.

This Orwellian phenomenon can be seen in our country’s universities, wretched parodies of what they are supposed to be, are veritable monuments of newspeak and doublethink.  Yet, as we witness the global rise of ISIS and observe how the Iranian mullahcracy continues to threaten both Israel AND the United States, as they stand at the threshold of developing nuclear arms—our President has the temerity to tell us:

• ISLAM IS THE  RELIGION OF PEACE!
• THERE IS NO GLOBAL JIHAD
• BEWARE OF EXTREMISM

Consistently, Obama has never recognized a “global jihad” is shaping up before the entire Western word to see. Now that ISIS is taking over Libya (as Khadafi warned Hillary and Obama), ISIS is threatening Italy and announced, “: “You have seen us in Syria, now we’re right here, just south of Rome…”[1]

This week, apropos of seemingly nothing, in an interview with Mathew Yglesias from the Vox.com website, Obama was asked about terrorism. In his answer, the President said the terrorism threat is overrated. And that was far from the most disturbing statement he made. Then the President began to get more specific and referred to the jihadists who committed last month’s massacres in Paris as “a bunch of violent vicious zealots,” who “randomly shot a bunch of folks in a deli in Paris.” In other words, the terrorist Ahmedy Coulibaly, at Hyper Cacher, the kosher supermarket he targeted, was just some zealot. The Jews he murdered while they were shopping for Shabbat were just “a bunch of folks in a deli,” presumably shot down while ordering their turkey and cheese sandwiches.

This past weekend, a Danish synagogue was attacked and a man was killed as the community came together to celebrate a bar mitzvah. And where was the President? President Obama is busy fundraising and golfing in California. And what was his reaction? To date, he has been silent on the Danish terrorist attacks.

When is the Jewish community in this country going to finally wake up? Well, at least he didn’t say it was “workplace violence.”

This is nothing new with Obama. In 2009,  a Muslim Jihadist in  Ft. Bragg started shouting “ALLAHU AKBAR” as he slaughtered 13 Americans and wounded more than 30 others. Do you remember Obama’s reaction? He said it wasn’t terrorism—it was only “workplace violence.”

If nothing else, Obama has been remarkably consistent.

Then again, the President’s Press Secretary condemned the murders, but neglected to mention the fact that the victims were Christian. This omission is by no means the first. Obama is more busy defending Islam—than he is identifying with the Jihadi victims who are being killed by the tens and hundreds of thousands.

Fortunately, the civilized world is noticing how irrational our President is behaving:

• The (NY) Daily News ran a Front Page headline, sending President Obama a message in type the size of the Eiffel Tower: “You let the world down”

• The (UK) Daily Mail headline read, “America snubs historic Paris rally”

Like 1984, Obama wants us all to believe that today’s pan global-Islamic movement is “peaceful.” Is it difficult for us to wonder if the President was a no-show precisely because it wasn’t a rally against extremism in general, but against Islamic extremism in particular?

Definitely!

The civilized world recognizes that Islamic terrorism may be the most challenging issue of our time. Even Jordan and Egypt recognize this simple reality, but Barack Obama can’t bring himself to utter those two words, side by side. For a while, he wouldn’t even call terrorism … terrorism.

This is a president who won’t even acknowledge that the Islamic State is … Islamic. Despite the fact that the stated goal of the ISIS jihadists is to create a caliphate in the Middle East, President Obama said the organization “is not Islamic.” He also said they’re not even part of the Muslim religion.

As the Turkish PM Erdogan said it best, “there is no such thing as Radical Islam—only Islam” and for once, I believe that he was telling the truth.

Our President is determined to keep us away from recognizing the obvious.

Mayor Guliani is a heroic man. After the Parisian attack of the Jihadists, Guliani had these words to say and took exception to the President’s claim that the terrorists who killed 12 people yesterday were acting “senselessly.” He added, “This is not a senseless enemy. This is an enemy with sense. They have an ideology and a philosophy. You can call it a distortion of a religion, which it is, but it’s still an ideology that they follow,” he said, adding that this appeared to be a very well trained team of attackers.” Guiliani also criticized the president for displaying “weakness” that fails to strengthen moderate Muslims around the world against extremists.

There is an old story attributed to Willy Nelson, his wife once found him in bed with another woman, and his question, when he saw her, was, “Are you going to believe me or your lying eyes?”

The time has come for Americans to demand that the President demonstrate his loyalty to protecting Americans instead of apologizing for the Jihadists in our midst.

As Jews, we have to wake up from our dreams and recognize that if Obama does not like Netanyahu. Obama does not seem to like Jews that much judging by his reaction to European anti-Semitism. However, he does have a passion for golf, vacationing, fundraising, and stoking the coals of racial hatred,

Netanyahu may not be perfect, but he is the closest thing we have to a Winston Churchill living in our time.
